Project Tow-100

Update 02/2004: WOW! It's amazing how much life can change! I originally wrote this page when I was contemplating purchasing a tow vehicle in 2002. There's no T-100 yet! But I'm going to leave this page up for a while, as a reminder of what can happen to a T-100 when someone as goofy as me believes he has an unlimited budget. Maybe it will happen someday, but I'm not holding my breath.

Project Tow-100 will start with a T-100 xtracab SR5. Hopefully I'll be able to find a nice white, gray or black one with high miles, but in otherwise very nice shape. In keeping with the Toyota theme, an iForce V8 will be sourced along with the automatic transmission and transfer case - complete with push-button 4wd. A TRD SuperCharger will find it's way under the hood as well.

Not being content with a plain-Jane pickup, even for daily driving or towing. I'll ditch the rest of the drive-train, including axles and suspension. In their place will go an RC Dana 44 up front and a FF Dana 60 out back. This means a solid axle swap!

I anticipate using Chevy springs front and rear, with RS-9000's all the way around. The goal will be a relatively mild 4-5" of lift - enough to fit 35" tires. I will probably run BFG AT's, knowing that it won't be used heavily off-road. The axles will be fit with 4.88 gears, along with a Detroit locker in the rear, and possibly an ARB or limited slip up front. Some of this stuff is still way up in the air.. ;-)

If it ever happens, this will be a long project - I anticipate spending at least two years on this making sure it's just right. Anticipated start date? June 01, 2010.
